Why did you choose to enter this field? What do you find most rewarding about your specialty?

I choose the field of Gynecology, Urogynecology, Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery because of the significant impact I get to make in the lives of women and their health. When a woman has a pelvic floor disorder like prolapse or urinary incontinence, it negatively affects her personally, her relationships and her activities in so many ways. She oftentimes feels embarrassed and frustrated. I find it very rewarding to educate and treat these disorders so women can return to their productive lives with confidence.

What do you enjoy most about seeing patients everyday?

I enjoy listening to my patients, partnering with them to devise a plan that will best improve their pelvic floor function and quality of life. I also enjoy getting to know my patients as a person–aside from just being a “patient”. I like to hear stories about their family, kids, vacations, hobbies, and work.
